Rangitoto Range Challenge
A real-world challenge to prove the performance of electric jet boating.
What better way to answer the most common question — "how far can I go?" — than to show it in action?
Join Ian Pearce from ZeroJet as he takes the Highfield EJET330 out for the first ZeroJet Range Challenge around Auckland’s iconic Hauraki Gulf. The Rangitoto Range Challenge had a total distance of 19 nautical miles. Departing from Narrow Neck Beach, the mission was simple: cruise up around Motutapu and Rangitoto Islands, then gently make our way back, all on a single electric charge.
With a plan to travel fast on the way out (18 knots) and cruise back at lower speeds, this test wasn't just about distance — it was about real-world conditions, choppy water and all. At high speeds the battery worked hard but at slower cruising speeds, the range extended significantly, showcasing just how versatile the system is.
Despite finishing the journey with 0% remaining on the battery indicator, there was still enough power left to get back to Narrow Neck Beach. The E330 performed flawlessly — smooth, quiet, and confident the whole way.
The takeaway? The EJET330’s 10kWh battery system and ZeroJet propulsion aren’t just for short trips or calm days. This system delivers the perfect mix of fun, performance, and range without the noise, emissions, or fuel cans.
